England vs Australia, 4th ODI: The fourth match of the 5-match ODI series between England and Australia was played at Lord’s. Australia had to face a crushing defeat in this match. Due to rain, the match was reduced to 39-39 overs. Batting first, England scored 312 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 39 overs. In response, the Australian team collapsed for just 126 runs in 24.4 overs. England captain Harry Brook was chosen as the Player of the Match for his tremendous innings.
Stormy batting by Liam Livingstone and Harry Brook
Australia captain Mitchell Marsh won the toss and decided to bowl and his decision proved to be completely wrong. Very aggressive batting was seen from England. Opener Phil Salt scored 22 runs off 27 balls. Apart from this, Ben Duckett played an innings of 63 runs with the help of 6 fours and 1 six in 62 balls. Captain Harry Brook batted brilliantly in the middle order.
He scored 87 runs with the help of 11 fours and 1 six in 58 balls. Apart from this, Jamie Smith scored 39 runs with the help of 1 four and 2 sixes. Liam Livingstone batted very stormy in the lower order. He scored an unbeaten 62 runs with the help of 3 fours and 7 sixes in 27 balls. Liam Livingstone hit 28 runs in a single over of Mitchell Starc.
Australia’s batting faltered badly
Australia had a good start while chasing the target. The pair of opener Travis Head and captain Mitchell Marsh shared a 68-run partnership in 8.4 overs for the first wicket. Marsh scored 28 runs with the help of 2 fours and 1 six in 34 balls. While Travis Head played an innings of 34 runs with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes in 23 balls.
However, after this the innings faltered. The middle and lower order of the team completely flopped. For England, Matthew Potts took 4 wickets and Brydon Carse took 3 wickets and wrapped up the innings soon. Now the 5-match series is tied at 2-2.
